Artist's Comments

This is fan art of Malachi the hedgehog, who belongs to ChakotayDGryphon. :iconchakotaydgryphon:

He’s a waterbender who can telekinetically manipulate water in its various forms. Here, he’s in the middle of a snowball fight, using his powers to create a big honkin’ snowball, which he will shortly send flying at someone. He’s a good-hearted guy, but I wanted to capture him doing something mischievous.

OMGosh! *happy squee* You finished it! *flying-pounce-tackles* :iconhyperglompplz:

I cannot begin to tell you how truely awesome this piece is. The pose the colors, everything looks like it could be a still right out of a cartoon. You've even got details in there that most other people ignore; his tear-lines, the buckles/stone-settings on his leathers, the cat-like slits of his eyes... :excited: It must've taken you hours!

Definately the most rock'n, picture of Mallie I have ever seen! :worship: Thanks CP, you're the best!

Definition of an optimist: like the one-legged grasshopper that jumped onto the blade of grass... when 'e 'opped 'e missed!! :XD:

I defy you, stereotypes! :shakefist:

Love mischievous--with all the kid characters I draw it's one of my favorite emotions.

The coloring is great, especially in the snow, but the changing colors in the scarf's edge lines are a little hard to take in.

The snow effect looks amazing; it adds to the picture without dominating it.

Someone's about to get a whole heap of snow down the back of their pants somethin' awful XD You now have me intrigued - another artist heavily focused on the anthro side of their Sonic characters? I'm so there!

I think what I like the most is that awesome scarf around his neck. Those colours are just so vibrant and awesome in a gentle snowy white landscape. Totally adds to this piece oh-so-much.

Awesome work hon!

What I think, I create.
What I create, I draw.
What I draw, I love.
What I love, is everything to me.

I prefer creativity, originality, dynamics and sassiness over cut and paste and paintfill and trace.

I learn from honest critique. Do you?

I could have sworn I already wrote a response to this, but I guess it got lost somewhere.

Thanks very much. Malachi doesn’t normally wear a scarf, but I thought it would be a good touch for a winter-themed pic. Chakotay had said his favorite colours are blue and gold, so I tried to work that in.
I seem to have this compulsion to adorn characters’ necks. It could be a necklace, a choker, a scarf, a tie, or whatever: they have to be wearing something around the neck. I don’t know why.

Chakotay’s work needs more love. She has a unique, fantasy-influenced style and sense of character design. I’ve never seen Sonic characters done quite like hers.

Thanks. I see what you mean about the scarf. I went a little crazy with coloring the lines and the resulting line looks kind of broken.

I like snow (artistically, not in real life). The lazy artist in me appreciates its simplicity, but it’s also aesthetically pleasing and good for evoking moods and feelings.

:D Saying it looks like a cartoon still is a great compliment. I’m not very interested in going into animation, but I love animation and I want my cartoon drawings to look vibrant and alive. Thanks for featuring it in your journal, too.

It took a while, but all my finished drawings do, even the simplest ones. I wanted to do Malachi justice, so I tried not to gloss over the details that make him cool.
